A New Day

January 21, 2009

As I promised, I actually managed to stay awake until Obama’s Inauguration Speech.  Like it or not, it’s history, and while I might not have been at the Washington Mall, I felt a need to watch it happen.

Much amusement at the fact though that, due to delays in the schedule, Obama was technically already president by 12 noon Eastern.

Despite everything, there was a distinct lack of fanfare with the new President’s speech.  It was a pragmatic, get-down to business exposition reflecting the times, I guess, with the World in a financial slump, the Environment a major issue, and energy shortages affecting everyone.

It’s not a new day, as some might hope; the sun rose as it always had, the planet turned on its axis, people woke up and went to work, like they’ve always had.  It is the start of something different for the US, however.
