I was able to convince my sister to accompany me to the movies, and frankly I was surprised that she acquiesed so easily. It’s a rare thing for us to do these days, especially when one considers how busy we’ve been, what with our work and post-Graduate studies occupying our attention. Anyway, the movie for the day was the Watchman, the adaptation of the critically-acclaimed genre-deconstructing graphic novel by Alan Moore, and I have to say, despite my low expectations when the opening credits started, I was pretty impressed at the end of it. It’s not quite faithful, but it was a very pragmatic adaptation of that much-beloved comic, though given the silence of the other movie-goers with us in the theatre, most of the over-arching themes like sacrificing one’s ideals for the greater good and rigid uncompromise flew way over the their heads. My sister included. Regardless, it’s a well-spent 280 pesos, and a worthwhile way to spend the late afternoon.
