Colorful Waterfall

March 10, 2009

The demo of the newest Touhou game was just released a few days ago, and as quickly as you could say ‘danmaku’ I was able to download a copy of it.  Barely a few minutes later, I was playing the game, and partaking the brief glimpse into ZUN’s latest work.  I have to say, even more so than even possibly Mountain of Faith, the colors are oh so vibrant, that it’s easy to lose focus of the waves of multi-colored bullets streaming towards you.  Which is a bad thing, but then again it’s one of those things you just accept in a Touhou game.

Oh, and did I mention that the character art seems to be the best we’ve seen in recent memory.  ZUN must have been sober for a change, as Reimu lost the jaundiced tone she seemed to have had for two games, and Sanae looks pretty cute.  As for Marisa?  Well, the Ordinary Black-White Magician is still the same, which is to say cute as ever.

Gosh, this is going to see a few hours lost to the game, and even more so when the full version comes out in the upcoming Comike.  It’s a lousy time to be a fan with lower-than-average hand-eye coordination and reflexes, but for the love of the game and the setting, I’ll do my best!
