Housewarming Deficits

June 5, 2012

For all my fears last night, the Tuesday shift didn’t turn into the stressful nightmare I’d expected, and instead passed rather casually, except for the usual spikes in the queue in the most inopportune moments (one particular bad one came sometime after noon). For this I have indirectly thank the other teams on the morning shift, who more or less filled the floor up until mid-morning.  Kind of a shame that the agent population started to plummet after that, which brought about an increase in queue intensity, but that is kind of expected.

What was more surprising for me was the fact that, after noontime, I was pretty much flying solo on the merchant side of things.  With the resignation of one of the team, it was down to just two agents — myself and a batchmate — to fill up the shift up to two in the afternoon, but today my companion was nowhere to be found.  I’m not sure if it was her day off (we had a recent shift bid, as mentioned in previous entries, and I was able to keep my usual Friday-Saturday day off schedule, much to my relief), but her absence was telling, as I was swamped with membership application calls from that point onward.

It was a struggle, let me tell you, and at one point the queue list had as much as eight calls waiting.  No matter how quickly I tried going through the calls, it number of calls on queue didn’t seem to diminish, but when they did while I was currently on another call it was obviously worrisome.  It meant that the customer hung up, which means abandoned calls, which meant that the productivity numbers for that part of the shift would plummet.  And since I was the only one on-call, as it is, obviously I’m going shoulder part of the blame.  Tsk.

Didn’t go to the gym this afternoon, as we were busy helping my sister prepare moving stuff to her and her husband’s new house in Quezon City.  Not really moving out as it is, but packing a few bags, as they’re going to obviously clean the place first.  Tatay wants to visit the place this Saturday, and depending on whether or not there’s anything to do at DLSU I’ll probably join them.  It’s a good chance to see just where the location of the place is, so we can remember it the next time we need to visit.

Hmm. This means I’ll have to give them that housewarming gift that I promised when I deferred giving a present for their wedding.  That’s going to have to wait until Friday at least though, when I finally get my salary.  Ah, that day can’t come any sooner.
