Well, that was certainly a hellish week. I should be happy that I was able to finish a draft just in time for the deadline, but at the same time I’m disappointed at myself that I had to resort to an all-nighter yet again to save my lazy arse. This is seriously getting unhealthy for me, and I seriously hope that I won’t have to do that again anytime soon (HA!). I am seriously starting to sympathize with those poor doujinshi circles who have to cram like this on the days leading to a major convention like Comiket.
While I’ve somehow managed to survive all of this, the week has sure taken its toll on my body, and not in the expected manner. When I’m depressed, frustrated, stressed out, or nervous, I tend to over-eat to fill in those psychological gaps formed by my anxieties and, guess what? I felt all of those emotions over the past few days.
I seriously might have gained five extra pounds in just five days. That’s not healthy. At ALL.
Tch. It’s back to zero again. My weight loss program has once more run into a hurdle. As usual.
On a less weight-related note, this pretty much gives me some time to work on my backlog of anime downloads. Of course, I started on the movies first, but I plan to work down to some of the recent episodes of this season’s shows. I already finished the Trigun: Badlands Rumble movie some time ago, but I’ve only just finished watching tonight the movie that I downloaded with it, King of Thorn (Ibara no Ou/いばらの王).
The latter I found very enjoyable, though I wonder if the movie director went overboard with the Sleeping Beauty parallels in the adaptation. At its core, I think, is a coming-of-age/independence story mixed with a more modern reinterpretation of the Sleeping Beauty tale (which is different from the more heroic fantasy/SF flavor of the original manga). Literary theory is not my strong point, mind, and I’ve never taken European Folklore Studies, so… In the end this all just my opinion. Also, interesting how the ‘prince’ in this version turned out to be an aspect of Sleeping Beauty instead of being an outsider. In essence, Sleeping Beauty was trying to save herself.
Anyway, I’m just going to squeeze as anime as I could before I go to bed tonight. It’s back to work tomorrow, after all.
